Our Academy

Enrichment

Here at William Barcroft we offer a wide range of enrichment opportunities to ensure that we have delight and joy for the children, and to develop the whole child.

Enrichment Clubs

We have a wide range of clubs and activities for the children to enjoy.  These are chosen with pupil’s hobbies and interests in mind, and are selected by our Pupil Governors after consulting their classes. Children will receive details of clubs that are running via assemblies and letters and need to book their places on Arbor. Clubs run after school from 3.15-4.15 and currently include :

  • Monday: Year 3/4 football club, TTRS club and Christmas production club
  • Tuesday: Basketball club, Puzzle club and WBJS boys football team
  • Wednesday: Year 5/6 football club and art club
  • Thursday: Multisports clubs, book club and WBJS girls football team

Lunchtime PE clubs run daily, rotating through a variety of sports and are lead by specialist PE coaches. On a Friday GTFC run special clubs for our ‘Stars of the week’.

In addition we have a breakfast club running from 8am each morning which is open to all children from our school .

If you require wrap around care after school, please contact Clee Kids Club who collect from our school office at 3.15pm and offer childcare until 6pm daily. Please follow the link below for more details:

Educational Visits

All year groups will have at least one educational visit each year, linked to their learning and to offer experiences which we cannot replicate in the classroom. Examples include Woodside Wildlife Park,  Claxby Grange Farm, the Holocaust Museum , Farr Ings and Brigg Heritage Centre.  We also offer a wide range of sporting activities out of school.  These include basketball tournaments, football matches, PE festivals, dance workshops, cricket festivals and many more.  We  offer many musical enrichment visits too, for example performing with Opera North in the Central Hall last year. We visit the local church twice per year at Christmas and Easter and the whole school are taken to enjoy the pantomime every year.

Residential and Outdoor Activity Opportunities

A programme of out of school activities has  been implemented to supplement the curriculum, designed to build children’s skills and confidence so that they can practice life skills independently. Here children will build up from basic camping skills in year three to participating in a full 3 day residential trip in year 6. We visit Back to Bear camp where the children experience a wide range of outdoor activities, alongside team-building challenges to develop key life skills.

Harbour Learning Trust Events

We love to work together with our other trust schools and have enjoyed events such as the Trashion show at Project Renewables,   ‘Trust Factor’ ,  a talent show at Lincoln  Royal Theatre and our HLT Team Building event at Meridian Showground.

Educational Visitors

We have a  programme of carefully mapped visitors who come into school to enrich the curriculum and excite the children. These include an Ancient Greek Workshop, authors (for example Jenny McLachlan and Luke Temple) , theatre companies (the Selfish Giant this year!) ,  GTFC, Labrascals  and  inspirational speakers  (eg Ben Heason ) to name a few. We also have weekly visitors such as our reading dog who loves being read to.

Community

One of our core values is Community and at William Barcroft we try to play an active role in supporting community projects. Examples include planting trees in Grand Thorald park and supporting the local SEND festival.  We are a Foster Friendly school and work closely with team in the local are who need our support.
