The children have been showing their parents all the fantastic learning they have been doing in school during the Spring term this week. Our fantastically well attended learning showcases give parents the opportunity to celebrate their children’s learning with them and helps give our children an opportunity to perform in our year group assemblies.

Every term we like to share the fantastic talent that we have at William Barcroft! This week we conducted our Spring Talent Showcase and 10 acts were given the opportunity to display their talents to the whole school and the judging panel. We had some fantastic singers, dancers and even gymnasts and it was a pleasure to watch. Congratulations to a winner who received a tasty Easter treat for their exceptional effort on the day.

Our next Talent Showcase will take place in the Summer term so please get practising if you want to be part of the cast.

We held an Easter crafts session after school for parents and carers with the children last week. As you can see, everyone had an ‘eggcellant’ time making a variety of Easter crafts.

Thank you to our parents for your support.

Year 3 loved the science assembly and their workshop on Magic Tricks, Noise and Taste.
Every child was completely engaged and had an amazing, fun time in the hall. They
thoroughly enjoyed using icing sugar and other ingredients to create their own sherbet
sweet.

Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed the science workshops this week! 6S loved a very messy slime-
making session using PVA glue and a few other ingredients. We had some very successful
slimes which were very entertaining but also a few mishaps which were hilariously funny! We
also enjoyed making tornadoes with water bottles in a warm up race called 'climate chaos'!

Year 4 had the fantastic opportunity to get up close and personal with some exotic insects
including snakes, stick insects, a hissing cockroach, scorpions, frogs and more as a part of
our Rainforest Topic! The children got to learn amazing facts all about these extraordinary
creatures. Thank you to Zoolab for coming in and letting us safely hold some of these
animals and learn all about their habitats, diets and many fascinating facts all about them.
We then carried on our independent research about these species by using the
Chromebooks to learn even more facts about them! Did you know that frogs actually swallow
using their eyes? Or that snail slime is good for your skin? This was a great chance to learn
all about the different rainforest layers and the animals that lurk inside!

We celebrated World Book Day on Friday 8th March! The children were invited to dress up
as a famous book character for this day and we saw a fantastic range of book inspired outfits
such as Matilda, Willy Wonka and even Aveline Jones! The children enjoyed a day of ‘Drop
Everything and Read’ centred around a particular book with a focus to promote our love of
reading and reading for pleasure. They had hot chocolates with marshmallows and cream to
enjoy as a treat! As well as all of this, Miss Stewart planned a very exciting ‘Barcroft Blind
Book Date’ event in school and we held our first ever ‘Book Swap’ event – where children
could bring in some books from home that they’ve already read and swapped them for a new
book. Please read below to find out more about what each class got up to on World Book
Day 2024!
